The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate arrived in Kenya in April,1997. Soon, young men began to approach members about joining the community. Pre-novitiate was opened in May 2002 with the purchase of property in Meru. Pre-novitiate is located approximately 250 Kilometres north-east of the capital city, Nairobi. 1 kilometre north of the equator in the foothills of snow-capped Mount Kenya.

Fr Bill, Bro. Roman, and Fr. Joe started with five cardidates. Later on in March 2003, three others joined the Pre-Novitiate Community. Bro. Harley joined the staff in December 2003 and Fr.Joe went to assist at Igandene.

In 2004, 8 prenovices were admitted to the Novitiate. They were divided into two groups; 4 in Namibia and 4 in Johnanesburg, South Africa.

In 2005, 8 novices became first Kenyan oblates when they made their first profession. Later, 3 went to Cameroon and 5 to Cedara in South Africa where they are doing their studies.

Six of eight students are studying for priesthood while two are studying for brotherhood.
